Day 5: Wed 19th: YHA Grasmere to YHA Patterdale

So great night's sleep and was up and out by 8.15. Chris was a bit stiff but was fine once we got going. 

After leaving the hostel we headed out the main road towards Keswick before turning right up the bridle path to Pattersdale.

We were climbing really since we left the hostel but it got steep initially on the bridleway but it was a good path. The path levelled out to a gentle climb most of the way to the top of the valley.

Once we were over the pass we were starting to gradually descend along Grisedale Tarn.

At the other side of the Tarn.  just above Chris’s backpack is the pass we came through and the peak on the right is Seat Sandal (736m)

You can see from the above photo the wind was picking up, look at Chris’s hair.

After descending from the lake we had views of Helvellyn and were walking parallel but below Striding Edge on our left.

Two months ago I climbed along Striding Edge and up onto Helvellyn, hence my obsession with this spot.

It was quite an easy walk today compared with the last three, not sure if this was because it was easier or we are getting used to it.

Tomorrow we are heading from Patterdale to Shap and an expected 25km and elevation of 780m at Kidsty Pike.
