Day 14 :Fri 28th: Egton Bridge to Robin Hood’s Bay(The End)

Breakfast was at  8 where we met Roger and his dog Milly. 

Got moving at 8.45 out of Egton Bridge towards Grosmont, where we tried to stay but little to no accommodation. Which was adding 3km to our last day.

As we climbed up onto the moores the weather became much worse with limited visibility.  We meet a runner, Roger, who stopped and started chatting to us as we walked. He told us he had  done the London Marathon  on Sunday  and had run the coast to coast in 69hrs a few months ago, impressive! 

We got quite wet! 

The moors were proper boggy and at points we struggled to get across them, trying to keep our feet dry as it was very deep in places. I actually fell for the first time but was fine, first and only fall the whole trip for both of us. We then dropped down into another valley and started our last big climb up the other side. The clim was  was through Little Beck Nature Reserve which was very pretty and very well maintained.

At the waterfall there was also an outdoor cafe which was such a welcome site, a hot drink is amazing when you are cold and wet. Well wet on the outside, rain gear was amazing (coat, trousers and gators), my boots I think were a little to short for the deep bogs and so right foot was wet 😠. Chris’s boots were fine but they are massive in comparison.

We continued up the path in the nature reserve

Emerged onto a small strip of farmland 

Before some more very challenging bog land

Survived the bog land then onto very wet slippy farm tracks. 

Not far now 3.5 miles to Robin Hood’s Bay 😀. But slightly longer for us as we were going via the coastal path.

We reached the coast!

There it was the finish line Robin Hood’s Bay!

Well earned pint of Guiness, we’ll we had two really! 

Today: 27.06 km 

Total: 328.97 km

Tomorrow doing very little! We head home Sunday, bus to  Scarborough, then train to London then on to Epsom.
