Day 6: Thu 20th: Patterdale YHA to Shap

 Very tough day today with a total ascent of 961m and descent of 873m. 

We departed Patterdale at 8.10 and crossed the river and were straight into the climb, which traversed the  side of the valley up to a plateau at 500m.

Highest point on the Coast to Coast

The descent was tough as you will see in the elevation profile below, knees and toes were soar. I had to reapply vasilne to my feet at the bottom.  It’s very hard to capture how step it is in photos. 

We descended to one end of the Haweswater reservoir and walked along the edge for about 6 km.

We made good progress along a difficult path. After the reservoir, it was pretty uneventful walking through farmland.

The next two photos show the point where we exited the Lake District National Park at Shap Abby. 

We eventually arrived in Shap at 16.00, we were pretty tired!

Total 116.47. 

Tomorrow we head for Kirby Stephen minimal climbing but is 32km!
