Day 12: Wed 26th: Ingleby Arncliffe to The Lion at Blakey Ridge

So our accomodation was in Park House in Ingleby Arncliffe. It was about 1.5 Km out of town on the C2C trail. Victoria was our host and she was fabulous. They don’t do dinner but she dropped us into town to The Blue  Bell for diner, and picked us up afterwards. Provide an excellent breakfast, as well as a packed lunch.

We climbed this track up, which became part of the Cleveland Way and as it’s a national trail it’s a much better track and well sign posted. 

We were now in North York Moors National Park.  On the top of the edge of the moors we walked along the edge for about 2km. As it was clear the views were excellent and you could see nearly all the way back to Richmond.

We then dropped back down and walked along under the edge for several kilometres and then climbed again.

Another steep climb onto the moors up onto Carlton Bank. It was feeling a bit like an obstacle course. 

The views though were fantastic. Again we dropped down into a Lordstones Country Park.

Time for a break and the Lordstones Cafe was an oasis. 

(It looks like we are sharing the hot chocolate but we’re not . My coffe is holding my phone😃)

From the cafe we walked along the edge again there were several hills we could have climbed but we opted not to.

We then climbed back up for some great views onto the Wainstones. These are sandstone crags and are the largest in the national park.

On the Edge

We had our last descent into Clay Bank Top.

We  then climbed back up onto the moors, our last climb, and headed for the The Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge along disused Farndale Railway, 9miles or 14km.

The is a Black Grouse, there were lots of these, but this guy let us get really close. More of him in the video.

For the first 4 miles we were fine but the flat surface and the never ending railway line just seemed to take forever. 

The first view of the The Lion Inn a welcome sight at 4pm but at least 1.5km to go. If you zoom in it’s in the middle o the Horizon.

We survived a very long day with 20 miles (32km covered and walking for 9 hrs with two small 15-20 minute breaks.

Today:32.86km

Total:282.57

Tomorrow we head to Egton Bridge which is 10 miless (16km). 

Might have been a better idea to do this at the start!
